What retained support is — and isn’t

Honest about the boundaries

Retained plans are advisory HR support, not outsourced case management. They give you experienced backup for everyday questions and decisions — not unlimited advice or ongoing legal compliance.

  • Unused calls and queries don’t roll over month to month.
  • Template library access is only while you’re subscribed.
  • Complex casework is quoted separately so you always know the cost.

HR support — common questions

No. Plenty of clients only ever use one-off advice calls or case reviews. Retained plans are there if you want ongoing backup, but they are completely optional and start at a three-month minimum term.

Because the right next step is not always a call. A short enquiry lets me check what you actually need first. Sometimes a quick letter review or document build is better value than a call, so you do not pay for the wrong thing.

A focused question I can answer clearly in writing. For example, whether you can ask a candidate about something, or whether an absence trigger is reasonable. Anything that needs investigation, drafting or detailed case handling is quoted separately.

No. Each month’s calls and queries are for that month. This keeps the plans simple and the price low. If you need more in a busy month, additional support is available at a discounted rate.

I will tell you honestly and quote the extra work separately before doing anything. This may include an investigation, hearing support or redundancy process. You are always in control of the cost.
